Transition Tools for Individuals

Career Matching: Simple questions, simple answers.
Our career matching quiz is different from other career assessments because we focus on using data to match you with careers. It isn’t a personality inventory, and it isn’t an aptitude test. You won’t find a confusing 1-5 ranking, and you won’t have to answer a hundred questions. In fact, we’ll ask under 20 and show you possible matches along the way.

We take available survey data to calculate your career match percentage. This allows us to ask you what knowledge areas you like, what skills you’d like to use, and what you value in a job and match you with jobs that use the knowledge, skills, and values you prefer. Our career database includes over 1,000 careers, so you’re sure to find something that interests you.

Research Center: More job-shopping, less job-hopping.
We think your career research experience should be more like your other online shopping experiences. That means providing meaningful, powerful options for sorting and filtering careers to help you find the best possible fit for you.

We’ll display your careers in an easy to see thumbnail format, showing education requirements and median annual salary. We encourage you to use our star-rating system to save your favorite careers for further research and comparison later.

And to help you in your research process, we’ve brought in career information from all over the web and arranged it in a way that is easy to read and understand. Our career details pages include relevant videos, descriptions and lists, plus sample budgets, job listings, education options, and comparisons of similar or related careers.

And because we believe in empowering our users to make their own decisions, we give you an easy-to-read chart to tell you which questions from your career match quiz match the data. In other words, we don’t just tell you which careers might be a good fit for you — we tell you why, and let you decide what you can live with and what’s a deal-breaker.

Career Planning: Setting goals, achieving dreams.
They say the difference between a dream and a goal is a deadline. But sometimes knowing how to set goals and deadlines is tricky — especially when you don’t know where to start. Which is why we walk you through setting appropriate goals for your education, employment and lifestyle.

Our career planner asks you less than 20 questions in the form of fill-in-the-blank and multiple choice options to create relevant long-term goals, short-term goals, and critical next steps. And we don’t expect you to already know what you should be doing — if you had all the answers, you wouldn’t be here. We provide you with a list of appropriate short-term goals and next steps based on your age or grade in school and the education, training, and career you’ve chosen to pursue.

And since every person and situation is unique, we also allow you to write your own goals and next steps. Once you’ve chosen or written your goals and next steps, we’ll ask you to set a deadline or due date to each of those tasks, putting you on the road to goal achievement. And to help ensure you meet your deadlines, you can even opt-in to receive daily or weekly reminders of all your upcoming tasks.

Career Coaching
For users who need additional support, we have certified life coaches on staff who focus on career planning and career development. Maybe you don’t have time to seek out the appropriate resources, or maybe the resources in your area or limited. Whatever it is, we’re here to help.

We can guide you through the entire career planning process and help encourage you and keep you accountable along the way. We’re not going to tell you what to do, but we will help you decide what the best next step for you is. We’ll help you learn to continually set and achieve goals.

Messaging
To help our users take advantage of the many resources and supports that may already be available to them, we have created a system that includes free “supporter” accounts. Anyone who wants to support a user is welcome to join—teachers, parents, counselors, vocational rehabilitation specialists, and friends. And we allow our users to grant permission to those supporters to view their career match results, favorite careers, career plan, and to-do-list. Everyone can then use our internal messaging system to communicate, organize, plan and complete tasks toward successful post-secondary transition.

In a perfect world, all of our users would have informed, experienced, and available parents, teachers, counselors and other school personnel. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Many times we find the supporters that should be available to our users are so overwhelmed with their own day-to-day responsibilities that keeping up with another person (or 25, or 900) is more than they can handle. To help ensure that none of our users fall through the cracks, we have written hundreds of coaching emails based on age, grade, education and employment plans, and special considerations like tribal affiliation or specific disabilities. Our users can opt-in to receive these messages. We want to make sure our users know what resources are out there, and we want them to know how and when to access them.

Curriculum
The best way for you to create a comprehensive plan for your future is to research. But how do you know what that even means?

The trick to writing the best education and career plan for yourself is knowing how to ask the right questions. So we have developed curriculum for every stage of the process with questions that will not only help you find the answers you need to make informed decisions about your life, but will also help you build essential math, language, and critical reasoning skills, better preparing your for that long-term career goal.

Budget Builder
You know what you want your life to look like someday. Maybe you want a home. Maybe you want a car. Maybe you want to travel. All of those things will contribute to your overall happiness and satisfaction in life. So what happens when the career that you have chosen doesn’t provide a lifestyle you can tolerate?

Wouldn’t it be great if you could tell someone “this is how I want to live” and have them tell you “then this is how much money you’ll need to make”? Wouldn’t it be even better if they could say “and by the way, here are a bunch of jobs that make that much money”?

Yeah. We thought so too. That’s why we built it.

Resume Builder
It wouldn’t do you any good if we left you high and dry at the end of all of this without helping you actually land that dream job, would it?

So to make things easier, we’ve developed a step-by-step resume writing wizard to coach you through developing a resume that showcases your skills, experience, and education, and tops it off with a little summary about why a company would want to hire you.
