Writing Your First Career Plan

The benefits of setting goals are well documented (you can read about them here, here, and here), and setting goals related to your career is absolutely no different. When we set SMART goals for our career, we call that a career or transition plan, and it’s a crucial step to post-secondary success. But just knowing you need to write a career plan isn’t enough… Usually you will need some help to create your very first plan.

Because of this, we decided to create a tool to help you write your transition plan from scratch without having to do a ton of research up-front. Our Career Planner is a wizard tool that walks you through, step-by-step, as you create Specific, Measurable, Achievable goals for your education, employment, and lifestyle (for starters!). Through a series of short answer and multiple choice questions, you can create an easy to follow, actionable plan. The options and ideas we’ll provide you with are based on your age/grade, desired career, and desired level of education. This will help you get started on the right foot and in the right direction with suggested short term goals and next steps that are Relevant to your specific goals. And since you’ll want those next steps to by Time-Bound to keep you on track, we also provide a way for you to set deadlines.

It prints on a single page to make it easy to keep track of, and you can sign up to receive email reminders of your upcoming next steps to make sure you stay on track and achieve your goals.
